               PULA

                    |
                  Pula, a town with about
70,000 inhabitants, is the largest town in Istria as well
as its cultural and economic center. But above all, Pula is
a historic town: the greatest monuments of the Roman period
were built in Pula, and furthermore, the largest collection
of Roman statutes and mosaics is exhibited in the archaeological
museum in Pula. The amphitheatre, simply named “Arena” by
the inhabitants of Pula, is the second largest Roman amphitheater
and the pride of Pula. It is one of the most important antique
                    structures in Croatia.

                  | In the ancient Roman period, the Arena was
a bloody stage for fights and battles between gladiators and
wild animals. It provided room for up to 26,000 people. Today,
it hosts film festivals, performances, operas and concerts.
The following artists have already appeared on its stage:
Sting, James Brown, Julio Iglesias, Alanis Morisette, Monserat
Caballe, Jose Careras, etc. Other interesting sightseeing
spots are: the amphitheatre, the Temple of Augustus, the Triumphal
Arch of the Sergi, etc |

The indented coast of Pula is connecting the
green nature and the blue sea. In this way it is creating a completely
different type of landscape, attracting visitors to enjoy and spend
their time in the fairytale bays, sandy and pebble beaches as well
              as clear water.
